Adolescent Orthodontics, generally referred to as Phase II Orthodontics, is what most people think of when considering an orthodontist. It involves the interception and correction of any problems that occur with permanent teeth. Examples include crossbite and jaw alignment issues. Orthodontists may delay treatment until all the adult teeth have emerged, but Phase II Orthodontics generally begins between ages 10 and 12. Treatments offer permanent solutions to improve function and stability of a person’s jaw, bite, and mouth.
After consulting with one of our specialists, patients can expect recommendations based on their needs. Braces are typically used for straightening and moving teeth, followed by a removable retainer. Other options include clear aligners, commonly referred to as Invisalign.
Most Phase II treatments last between 12 and 30 months. It is important during that time to adhere to whatever guideliens have been provided in order to avoid prolonging treatment durations. Once appliances are in place, routine office visits are at six-to-eight-week intervals. Periodically, we may need to see you sooner or less often, depending on the treatment and where you are in the treatment.
The cost varies per treatment, but we will work directly with you to make the treatment affordable. We offer customized and flexible payment programs to make payment easier for you. To get an idea of how much your treatment will cost, schedule a free consultation with us!
The goal of Phase II Orthodontic treatment is to give patients a healthy smile. Aside from aesthetics, however, braces or clear aligners can help prevent more serious problems later. An uneven bite, for example, can lead to increased risk of tooth decay or any other periodontal diseases. Likewise, TMJ Disorder can also occur from an uneven bite, leading to consistent headaches and jaw pain. For these reasons, we always recommend starting orthodontic treatment as soon as the need is identified. Younger patients have more flexible jaws and gums, making the treatments much more effective. At Burg Orthodontics, we love working with adolescents too, making the experience more fun for everyone!
